MEET MONICA

Monica Golder began her career as a physical therapist in 1988 after graduating from the University of Maryland. She worked in various health settings and has spent the past ten years of her career at Hereford Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in Parkton, Maryland. After many years working in the traditional healthcare model, Monica developed a belief that exercise to was the way to prevent and improve pain. She found it frustrating that many patients did not have a good exercise plan or option after finishing regular therapy, often leading to re-injury.

Monica became a student of Pilates in 2012, and as she felt the improvement firsthand in her own body, she was hooked! Pilates partnered well with her physical therapy background and allowed her the time to focus on movement patterns and muscle dysfunction which caused pain and impacted activity. Monica chose to study with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, leveraging her physical therapy knowledge, the latest research, and Pilates exercises to develop programs for all ability levels. Monica studied with teachers from various studios and earned her Pilates certification in 2020. She is currently a licensed physical therapist and is a certified exercise expert for aging adults by the American Physical Therapy Association. In addition, Monica completed the Practical Yoga instructor training with the Athletics and Fitness Association of America as well as a Pilates for Rehabilitation course.

Monica resides in White Hall, Maryland with her husband, Mick, and their two black Labs, Barley and Nellie. In addition to her passion for helping people improve strength and wellbeing, Monica enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and being outdoors. She can frequently be found playing ball or walking with her dogs, as well as pursuing her newest hobby: taking photographs of beautiful things in nature.
